Community Health Focus Hour - Syphilis:  Alive, Kicking and Often Untreated

Did you know that Chicago has the second highest rate of syphilis in the country, and the South Side rates are 9 times the national average. Most of the congenital cases come from the South Side, and the rest from the West Side. Congenital syphilis causes severe birth defects, but even more importantly, it kills babies through stillbirths and miscarriages.
 
How can this be happening in a big metropolitan area like Chicago? What's being done to awaken the public?
