COMEd's CONSTRUCT Inaugural 2016 Graduation Ceremony

Today, ComEd made yet another SMART Chicago move, as they celebrate another first, at their new training center, located at 3536 S. Iron Street! Chicago young adults graduated from a program CONSTRUCT, a program designed to increase the pool of qualified, minority candidates for construction jobs in Illinois.

ComEd celebrated more than 71 students who have successfully completed CONSTRUCT, a job training program that offers career guidance, and practical education about the construction industry. The program is designed to increase the pool of qualified, minority candidates for construction jobs in Illinois.

An even more notable outcome, of the CONSTRUCT training program is that 80 percent of CONSTRUCT graduates have been offered full time jobs!

Program training sponsors on hand to honor and present awards were Anne Pramaggiore, President and CEO, ComEd, Pat Whiteside, Vice President, Business Support, Nicor Gas, Lori Flores Rolfson, Vice President Operations and Maintenance  Peoples’ Gas. 

The program industry experts and participating  leaders from Aldridge, Asplundh, Burling Builders, David Mason & Associates, Groundhog Utility Construction, Inc., HBK Engineering, Henkels & McCoy, Intren, Lindblad Construction Company of Joliet, LiveWire, Meade, Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc., MJ Electric, MZI Group, Nash Brothers Construction Company, Osmose Utilities Services, PMI Energy Solutions, LLC, Trice Construction Company, The Roderick Group, and The Will Group.

Thanks and support for contributing representatives from six social service agencies – ASPIRA of Illinois, Austin Peoples Action Center (APAC), Chicago Urban League, National Latino Education Institute (NLEI), Quad County Urban League, and YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, who helped source this sucessful inaugural program.

This program rings very close to the heart of local southside communities, as an effort is underway, to expand the documented pool of readily available and trained minority candidates and small businesses for major construction jobs in our community and across the city of Chicago.

Working closely with our partners, ComEd and People's Gas, on this important first step CONSTRUCT program, at the Chicago ComEd Chicago Training Center, validates that community and corporate working together, can begin to bring an effective and rational job training sustainable models, to begin to make an impact to address, gaps in youth employment and ______ contruction industry.
