January 2018 Business Education Workshops

The Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (BACP) offers workshops every Wednesday and Friday. Workshops vary each month and are conducted by City Officials, experts, and partner business organizations. All workshops are free, and open to the public. Workshops are held at BACP's offices located in Room 805 and Room 1103 at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, IL  60602.

City of Chicago Refuse and Recycling Holiday Schedule

Please note these important changes to the refuse and recycling schedule due to the Monday, May 29 Memorial Day holiday.  All city-collected refuse will be serviced Tuesday through Friday next week. Residents should ensure all black refuse carts are accessible throughout the week of collection, not solely on their regular day of collection.

HURRY, Auburn Gresham $1 Large Lot Purchase Program Ends May 15th!

If you own land in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, you can buy up two vacant lots from the City of Chicago for $1 a lot. Go to https://largelots.org/apply/ and follow the simple 3 Steps to apply! The lots must be on the same block as land you already own. Only one application will be accepted per property deed.

Chicago Resident Service Fairs

City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Invites ALL Chicago Residents to Attend the Chicago Resident Service Fairs. These free Resident Service Fairs will begin on Saturday, March 19th and run over the next two months in different locations throughout Chicago. These will be one-stop workshops where residents can speak with experts from different city agencies to learn more about the many services that are already available, as well as new initiatives that we are launching.

The City of Chicago's plans to develop a "temporary", commemorative walking park at 7901 South Halsted where the old Walgreens once sat.  It would exist only until the site is developed.

Google Gives $775K to Create Minority Entrepreneurs in Residence at 1871

"A minority entrepreneur will get one year at 1871 and $40,000 of seed capital thanks to a donation by Google to Code2040, a non-profit aimed at helping monitories who want to enter the tech field. ""The Entrepreneur-in-Residence program provides another important resource at 1871 to support underserved communities across Chicago,"" added 1871 CEO Howard A. Tullman.

CPS Attacks Excelling Clara Barton With Turnaround

Chicago Public Schools Board is arbitrarily clarifying Clara Barton Elementary School  for Turnaround status.  Usually the Turnaround process takes place after a school has been formally placed on probation and has a record of “no progress” in the deficit areas that placed the school on probation.  In the case of Clara Barton, they were not placed in this category nor were they ever on the Turnaround list.
