FPCC Permits Available for Purchase at Dan Ryan Woods Visitor Center

Dan Ryan Woods, one of the Forest Preserves of Cook County’s most popular sites, is home to a visitor center where once again people can purchase permits for picnics and events in the Forest Preserves.

Permit sales at Dan Ryan Visitor Center will be available during the summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Permit purchases at this location are by credit card only. In addition to purchasing permits, visitors can also obtain a variety of informational material on other Forest Preserves offerings and upcoming events.

People can also apply for permits at Forest Preserves General Headquarters, located at 536 N. Harlem in River Forest, open (now through Labor Day) MondayFriday from 8:30 am to 6:30 p.m., and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. Those applying for permits must have a valid state identification card or driver's license. Accepted permit payment methods at General Headquarters are cash, check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard).

Permit purchasers can save time by purchasing permits online, as well as view information such as site availability, grove maps and the various fees associated with grove rentals, by visiting fpdcc.com/permits.

Dan Ryan Woods has long offered visitors a scenic location to gather with family and friends while being surround by nature. Additional amenities at Dan Ryan Woods include playfields, 16 picnic groves, a 120-guest pavilion and a sledding hill.

Hikers, bikers and walkers can traverse a nearly 1-mile-long loop trail in Dan Ryan Woods Central, and access the northern beginning of the Major Taylor Trail in Dan Ryan Woods North. Dan Ryan Woods South visitors can access various unpaved trails that weave through open and wooded areas.
