Two Top Chicago Students Win $22K Scholarships

As part of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project, CTA, project contractor Walsh-Fluor, Mayor Lightfoot, Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Scholars created the CTA Elevating Futures Scholarship Fund to provide a path for economically disadvantaged students to pursue STEM careers for engineering and construction-related fields. The scholarship fund includes financial and mentoring support as well as the opportunity to apply for internships on the historic RPM Project. This year’s winners are Patrick Muyenzi from Rogers Park, who will study electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Freddy Romero from Austin, who will study mechanical engineering or computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

World Sport Chicago Scholarship

World Sport Chicago is offering 50 Chicago high school student-athletes ACT tutoring, pre-college mentoring and the opportunity to receive one of 10 renewable college scholarships worth up to $5,000 annually ($20,000 total), supported by WSC and Chicago donors.  Applications and more information is available at  In order to be considered for the scholarship, all applications must be submitted online by November 16, 2011.
