World Sport Chicago Scholarship

For the third year, World Sport Chicago is offering an all-encompassing scholarship program for Chicago student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to athletics, academics and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

The World Sport Chicago Scholarship offers 50 Chicago high school juniors who are involved in Olympic and Paralympic sports ACT tutoring, pre-college mentoring and the opportunity to receive one of 10 renewable college scholarships worth up to $5,000 annually ($20,000 total), supported by WSC and Chicago donors.

WSC encourages the following students to apply for the program:

  • High school juniors (in the Fall of 2011)
  • Students who live and attend school in Chicago
  • Students who maintain a 2.0 unweighted GPA or higher
  • Participants in an eligible Olympic or Paralympic sport for two seasons in the last three years.  Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to apply.
  • Students who are willing to fulfill the WSC Scholar Duties
The 2012 WSC Scholars will receive:

Kaplan ACT Tutoring
2012 WSC Scholars will enroll in Kaplan's unique Classroom Anywhere course to prepare them for the ACT exam. This course offers students the benefits of instructor-led sessions while attending virtual classes.

Chicago Scholars Mentoring
WSC Scholars will also receive a year-long, pre-college mentoring program hosted by Chicago Scholars.  Students work with mentors and attend a series of workshops starting the end of their junior year through their senior year designed to guide students through the college application process. Students learn how to find colleges that are the right match/fit for them, complete the common application, write a personal statement, successfully interview, etc. The highlight of the program is Chicago Scholars' Onsite Admissions Forum, which allows students to interview with partner colleges and universities in October, some of whom may offer acceptances and financial aid at the event.

$5,000 College Scholarship
10 of the 2012 WSC Scholars will receive college scholarships of up to $5,000 to be used toward tuition, room and board at the four-year, accredited institution of their choice.  This is an annual, renewable award of up to $20,000 total.  These students will be selected based on their commitment to athletics, academics and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

Applications are now available online at www.wscscholars.org!  All materials must be received by November 16, 2011 in order to be considered!  Questions? Contact Stephanie Miller at wscscholars@worldsportchicago.org or 312.861.4946.
