One Million Degrees (OMD)— a Chicago nonprofit organization that empowers low-income, highly motivated community college students to succeed in school, in work, and in life—is now accepting applications for its volunteer coaches. OMD Coaches work with scholars in a one-on-one and small group setting to provide professional and personal support throughout the academic year, while helping to broaden scholars’ horizons of career aspirations and possibilities. Coaches are supported with ongoing training by OMD to ensure a positive and productive volunteer experience, and also have opportunities to connect with fellow coaches to expand their own professional networks.

Connecting the Dots

Dan Bassill, President and CEO of Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC, will be a guest on the Nonprofit “U” radio blog talk show on Monday, August 3, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Nonprofit "U" is an online forum where nonprofit stakeholders can discuss the latest developments in the sector and increase their capacity to serve their clients and build sustainable communities. Monday’s episode will provide an overview of  how the Tutor/Mentor Institute LLC is creating tutor/mentoring hubs to “transport” low income children from poverty to careers. World Sport Chicago Scholarship

World Sport Chicago is offering 50 Chicago high school student-athletes ACT tutoring, pre-college mentoring and the opportunity to receive one of 10 renewable college scholarships worth up to $5,000 annually ($20,000 total), supported by WSC and Chicago donors.  Applications and more information is available at www.wscscholars.org.  In order to be considered for the scholarship, all applications must be submitted online by November 16, 2011.
