WHEN:          Fred Hersch,  Friday, September 4, 2015,  7:10 – 8:10pm

ABOUT:        Hailed New Orleans pianist and vocalist Henry Butler has been blind since infancy. Butler has a myriad talents and performs both as a soloist and with his various Jazz and Blues bands, as well as with other musicians. His recordings have been praised by Downbeat and Jazz Times and his performances are regularly reviewed in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and others.

Cincinnati native Fred Hersch has been heralded as one the most impressive and innovative jazz pianists—in fact, Vanity Fair  proclaimed him “the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade.” Hersch balances his internationally recognized instrumental and composing skills with significant achievements as a bandleader, collaborator and theatrical conceptualist. Hersch has also been a passionate spokesman and fundraiser for AIDS services and education agencies over the past 20 years. He has produced and performed on four benefit recordings and in numerous concerts for charities, raising more than $300,000 for the cause.

ABOUT ADA 25 CHICAGO:

ADA 25 Chicago is a network of civic partners who have come together to commemorate and advance a civil rights milestone – the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Despite 25 years of progress, people with disabilities still have higher poverty rates, lower employment and poorer educational outcomes than those without disabilities. ADA 25 Chicago is convening leaders from throughout the region to commit to new programs and initiatives that will build awareness and expand access, inclusion and opportunity for people with disabilities in the key areas of education, employment, community inclusion and technology. The vision of ADA 25 Chicago is to help make Metropolitan Chicago the most inclusive region in the nation. The Chicago Community Trust is the lead sponsor of ADA 25 Chicago.
