Two Top Chicago Students Win $22K Scholarships

As part of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project, CTA, project contractor Walsh-Fluor, Mayor Lightfoot, Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Scholars created the CTA Elevating Futures Scholarship Fund to provide a path for economically disadvantaged students to pursue STEM careers for engineering and construction-related fields. The scholarship fund includes financial and mentoring support as well as the opportunity to apply for internships on the historic RPM Project. This year’s winners are Patrick Muyenzi from Rogers Park, who will study electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Freddy Romero from Austin, who will study mechanical engineering or computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

CPS Attacks Excelling Clara Barton With Turnaround

Chicago Public Schools Board is arbitrarily clarifying Clara Barton Elementary School  for Turnaround status.  Usually the Turnaround process takes place after a school has been formally placed on probation and has a record of “no progress” in the deficit areas that placed the school on probation.  In the case of Clara Barton, they were not placed in this category nor were they ever on the Turnaround list.
