On September 11, 2015, Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) Chicago hosted a Peer-to-Peer learning visit and tours of three Chicago NHS neighborhoods: West Humboldt, Auburn Gresham and Chicago Lawn. Peer-to-Peer is designed by Neighborworks America to share Community Building and Engagement practices. The group of visitors hailing from Washington DC, South Florida, New Orleans and South Massachusetts toured the Auburn Gresham Micro Market area, viewed our community assets, as they watched the Pillars of Auburn Gresham film, before touring and learning about two key NHS area projects, the Micro Market and the 7800 Morgan Troubled Building intervention.

First stop was to target area one of the Auburn Gresham Micro Market, the Oglesby Family Zone. They met one of the Zone’s newest residents and toured her once vacant and abandoned, newly rehabbed 2-flat building. The next stop was to the 7800 block of Morgan, to learn about the resident and business led "troubled building" intervention and about their dedication to maintaining the block’s community garden. Thanks to residents Shemeca Dunlap and Grandville and Juanita Love, for sharing their stories of how residents working with other community partners can turn the bleak into something wonderful!
