Today on the home page is a Doodle, Google logo, for Ida B. Wells. Ida B. Wells was born 153 years ago today and was known as civil rights and women's rights activist who was wicked smart and an outstanding journalist.

She was born a slave in Holly Springs, Mississippi in 1862. This was right before President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. In her career she did investigative journalism documenting the lynching in the United States and wrote "Free Speech and Headlight." She also spoke around the country and made major strides in civil rights.
