The Beating Breast Cancer Program (BBCP) is an African American breast cancer outreach program which promotes early detection of breast cancer through education, navigation and support. It addresses cultural beliefs that are barriers to breast cancer control.
In three and a half years, the BBCP was implemented in seven community areas of Chicago with almost 500 educational sessions involving 12,000 participants. Majority of these sessions were held in various sites such as health centers, churches, schools, beauty salons, mosques, food pantries, theatres.
This session will discuss the recruitment strategies that birthed the high interest and participation in the program. Learn more about Dr. Apantaku-Onayemi’s research.
