Auburn Gesham Walmart Neighborhood Market Grand Opening!

What a beautiful day in the Auburn Gresham community, for a grand opening of a NEW Walmart Neighborhood Market, on 76th & Ashland, 60620. At one point in time, this particular area was filled with vibrant industry providing hundreds of jobs for the community. Now the NEW Walmart has opened up well over 100 job opportunities for residents, assisting in the revitalization of the community.

Colorful fresh fruits and vegtables line the vast produce sections offering healthy options for neighborhood shoppers and beyond.

The long aisles filled to capacity with everything shoppers need, from groceries to household products. No more running from store to store, this is the Auburn Gresham's one-stop shop!

Greeted by smiling employees, both young and old, from the community, asking customers, is there any assistance needed?

Creating a local Walmart Neighborhood Market in Auburn Gresham has opened job opportunities for Chicago's youth. Because of Walmart's flexible hours, employees are also able to attend community colleges to futher their education while working.

Several of Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation's board members , stood along side Alderman Latasha Thomas (17th Ward), Mayor Rahm Emanuel,  Walmart Executives, and the General Contrator (see photo below) at the Wednesday, March 4th ribbon cutting, which is also the anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Chicago.

Thank you Shannon for writing such a great community story about the new Walmart Neighborhood Market, from our youths' perspective. It was my joy to edit this story. -- N.Sanders, Auburn Gresham Portal Editor
