To help develop and promote a pedestrian-friendly and transit hub, improve the quality of education for all ages, and strengthen support systems for health and social services, the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation's (GADC) Ernest Sanders helped to raise awareness by participating in the city of Chicago's Bike to Work Week.
Sponsored by the city of Chicago and the Active Transportation Alliance, Bike to Work Week is part of the City's yearlong celebration, Bike Chicago. Bike Chicago is Chicago’s commitment to become more bicycle friendly and environmentally conscious.
The Active Transportation Alliance is also very interested in "making bicycling, walking and public transit so safe, convenient and fun that we will achieve a significant shift from environmentally harmful, sedentary travel to clean, active travel."

Common Sense Media's Sue Thotz, a partner with GADC and the city of Chicago Smart Communities Initiative, rode her bike one day a total of 30 miles (between the Auburn Gresham, Downtown Chicago, and Logan Square neighborhoods). Over the whole week, she traveled a total of 54 miles by bike.
Ernest Sanders rode his bike two days between the Auburn Gresham and South Shore communities, and picturesque Lake Shore Drive traveling approximately 30 miles for the week.
The city of Chicago is a definite advocate for bicycling in neighborhoods as several agencies bike while working. These departments include the Chicago Police Department and Department of Revenue.
