Illinois State University (ISU) Music Education and Art Education students shared their college experiences with Simeon Career Academy TEACH club students and Westcott and Kipling Elementary schools as part of an ISU and Auburn-Gresham Urban Teacher Pipeline initiative.

Earlier in the day, ISU Art Education students took part in art activities within the Mr. Serrianne's Simeon High School art room, Ms. Siefert's Westcott Elementary art room, and Ms. Siegler's Kipling Elementary art room. At each of these sites, the students were really engaged in working with the ISU students to create a final art piece that would be displayed in the school. A grassroots approach was used as a research method to determine the outcome of their productions.

At Westcott and Kipling, the art teachers and ISU students solicited students' input about their desired careerpaths and helped them to draw/create a final piece. At Simeon, students reviewed and learned about different forms of mapping styles and how to reproduce a map of their neighborhood with body parts, words, and images.

Everyone had a wonderful time at each of the sites. Once complete, all of the ISU students visited the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) offices, shared a fantastic meal at B J's Market & Bakery and visited St. Sabina Church. When ISU students arrived home in Normal, IL, they expressed their satisfaction of the trip and wanted to get back on the bus and do it again.

Here's to a long and lasting relationship between ISU and the Auburn Gresham community. Click here to see more pictures of this day.
