#STEM Is in the Air This Spring Break!

Thanks to Principal Shaka Rawls, for allowing us to use Leo Catholic High School and staff for working with Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (GAGDC), our volunteer partner Chicago Cares to host an amazing STEM event, to kick off Chicago Public Schools first day of Spring Break!

His really amazing science teacher Mr. Steward, jumped in with several scholars from his class, to ensure each Auburn Gresham young person participating, from a local school, had a youth mentor to work alongside them.

GCM Grosvenor volunteers, were out in force to create hand painted Leo High School

logos and of course to work alongside help build mini robots. Huge thanks also to Ms. Fleck for always supporting

GAGDC, being there for the youth, and supporting the Leo’s staff within the community.

The outcome of the day was truly an afternoon of learning, challenges, meeting new from different schools and working alongside corporate partners who genuinely care about Auburn Gresham. All in all the day ended in a lot of fun for all. The icing on the cake is every young person left with a working programmable robot, of their very own making.

The Greater Auburn Gresham Development staff, in attendance was especially proud of the Auburn Gresham GOLD (AGGOLD) 5th graders and under, who worked really hard to understand directions for the build and trial an error to program the robot successfully, and network with other students from schools in the neighborhood.

By the end of the afternoon, there were scenes of GCM Grosvenor staff creating story books about the robot, decorating and naming the robots and even pushing the limits of colorfully drawing on the race track and programming the robots for new maneuvers, even around dinosaurs, with our youth.

The event ended very colorful and ended up with a little bit of STE(Art)M!
