In December, the University of Chicago Medicine opened a bigger and more advanced adult Emergency Department (ED). The new ED is located at 5656 S. Maryland Avenue. It is connected to the hospital’s Center for Care and Discovery and uses new technology and patient care practices.

This will improve the experience for patients who have had heart attacks, strokes, possible broken arms or legs, very bad stomach pains and more.

In May 2018, UChicago Medicine plans to begin adult trauma services. Being a certified adult trauma center means the entire medical center will be able to treat victims of car crashes, serious falls, major burns, gunshot wounds and other severe injuries.
