Fuller's Barber Shop Gets Cutting Edge Makeover!
Owner of the local Auburn Gresham Fuller Barbershop, on the Southside of Chicago is used to getting residents young and old, those who are visiting the neighborhood and even elected officials pop in to get their hairline edge cut, by their traditional tried and true neighborhood barber. Many times, customers have had to step over the cracks in the floor, to sit safely into one of the barber’s chair. After many years of service, hundreds of dedicated customers and not much reinvestment, the shop floor was literally ready for it’s own new makeover. After many consultations and outlining ways we could help improve his business, by cutting the plan into smaller, workable sections, the owner finally agreed.
The barbershop right off the the corner of 79th Racine, across from Walgreens, features its owner and master barber Louis Star and Miss Mary, who has been with him for a long time. Even in the physical shape it was in, the barbershop often had standing room only, for customers waiting for a barber. Fuller’s Barbershop specializes in standard cuts, precision designs, tapers, fades and the popular traditional straight razor shaves.
Like many barbers, they are all about getting you edged right and a great cut, but they also take the time to get to know regular community folks that live, work, or park near his shop. The owner is also dedicated to giving free cuts leading up to back-to-school time, for youth that can’t afford it. He is also quick to donate free haircuts, for the first 50 customers, at the annual 79th Street Renaissance Festival. Louis says, “you may or may not get rich cutting hair, but it will let you stand on your own two feet and that’s just why it’s time for me to make some changes, and fresh new start, with a new subfloor and a shiny stained new wood floor is perfect man.
