May 2016 - Business Spotlight On Poppin Dough ™

“Not Your Mama’s Poppin Fresh Dough” Poppin Dough A Big Success On Chicago’s Southside

It’s like it has been around forever. In fact, it opened in late 2015 -- and this family owned business has found its groove and are popping out some really good doughnuts! The lines on weekends and in morning are pretty much most of the time long. For a newer business in the community, this is great news! But once you get a taste of its famous glazed yeast donuts, or the apple fritter, or that really large oversized glazed dough, that’s big enough to share multiple ways, you won’t mind the lines. And with donuts being just barely a dollar, you won’t mind popping for the doughnuts, to bring to your next get together.

This isn’t the owners’ first shot a starting a small business in Chicago. He’s an old hat, at ensuring the proper city business licenses are in place, how to market his product and effective use of a small store footprint, where you can even see the product being made, all the way to ensuring state of the art equipment and point of sales technology are all in place.

More good news about this owner is he didn’t wait for the customers to come find him. He came out to his local Neighborhood Business Develop Center, at the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Center, introduced himself and even brought Poppin Donuts so the community could sample them and get to see his new brand. Poppin Dough has even trained youth from the nearby CICS Longwood School, on how to make the donuts and in many ways have gained supporters for life.

When you get a chance, pop in and see them and buy a dozen. Poppin Dough is located at 1235 W. 95th Street, with hours from 6:00am – 6:00pm. They do need to rest, so remember they are closed on Sundays
